Read price structure first
An uptrend often shows higher highs and higher lows. A downtrend often shows lower highs and lower lows. A range shows price moving back and forth without a clear direction.
Use the 10/21 EMA cloud
The cloud is a short-term directional filter. When the 10 EMA is above the 21 EMA and both are rising, direction is more constructive. When they are flat or crossing repeatedly, the message is less clear.
Simple example
A stock pulls back but remains above a rising cloud and holds a prior support area. That is different from a stock breaking below support with both averages falling.
